Historically Sensitive Whole House Renovation
S. Wayne, PA
Thoughtful reconfiguration of interior spaces and circulation allowed a 107-year old residence to be sensitively updated and satisfy the daily needs and functions of a 21st-century family of four. The existing building structure and footprint remain intact and unchanged, except for the addition of a new attached 3-car garage. The new vaulted, exposed oak structure porch, new front walk and lighting fixtures create an inviting approach to the main entry.
Foyer, Stairhall and Living Room
S. Wayne, PA
The Front Entry Foyer & Stairhall is an exceptional arrival point. A sinuous, curvilinear staircase with period balusters and a leaded glass window anchors the space and is complemented by an arch-top vestibule with keystone. Significant structural remediation was required around the staircase presenting a substantial challenge without disturbing the original finish millwork. The living room remained essentially intact, while floors were replaced, new doors and windows were installed and a new lighting design implemented.
Kitchen
S. Wayne, PA
As part of a larger home renovation, the existing kitchen was removed in its entirety and relocated into the 1990's sunroom addition. The new central location creates a family hub.
Breakfast Room and Family Room
S. Wayne, PA
The new Breakfast Area adjoining the Kitchen is oriented next to large cottage-style windows letting in morning sunlight from the east. It is also adjacent to the new Family Room as well as the restored Dining Room. The new Family Room offers 180-degree views of the property.
Formal Dining Room
S. Wayne, PA
The existing Dining Room's exterior door was replaced by a bank of French doors and transoms. The southern-oriented space is flooded with afternoon sunlight and dramatically opens to the exterior. New wainscot paneling, flooring, finish millwork and wallpaper embue the room (one of the original historic spaces), with appropriate formality.
Master Bath
S. Wayne, PA
The new Master Bathroom design incorporates a large walk-in shower, His/Her vanities, and a free-standing claw-foot soaking tub centered on a new double-wide window facing south.
