Built as the “Heart of the Village” in 1921, the Gladwyne Community Hall has held many different purposes over the years. It has been a post office, community health center, meeting-house, polling office, and most importantly, a library. In 1951, the purpose of the community hall was officially changed and was renamed the Gladwyne Library.
In 1991 Gardner/Fox worked with Dagit Saylor Architects, to complete renovations in this historic and integral building within the Main Line community. The renovations were designed and constructed to keep the historical integrity of the building intact.
Gardner/Fox renovated 8,000 square feet of the public library. This included the installation of structural steel reinforcements to accommodate the new floor plan, extensive HVAC system upgrades, a new roof, new tongue and groove Douglas fir vaulted ceilings, and the installation of custom built-in desks, benches, and displays.
Coincidentally the Gladwyne Free Library was recently renovated to provide ADA accessibility as well as improved safety and efficiency. They re-opened their doors on March 25th! Stop by and check out the newly renovated facility!
