We’ve got an award winner this week! In 2011 Gardner/Fox completed renovations to this 54 year old home, giving it new life with 21st century updates and amenities.
Our clients loved the architecture of their home, but needed updates in design and energy efficiency.
To begin, Gardner/Fox completed the installation of 111 energy efficient windows throughout the home, including the impressive cantilevered solaria in the main family room. We also added a few more with the construction of a glass-walled breezeway to a newly constructed two car garage.
During the interior renovation of the home, Gardner/Fox touched almost every room. In the main living space, we installed a modern gas fire place, which fit with the overall modern feeling of the home. The homeowners additionally expressed the need for private nanny quarters. Gardner/Fox re-purposed the original study (behind a hidden door next to the fire place), and added a full bathroom and closet, to fill the need.
The originally closed off and dark kitchen was opened and expanded! Talk about a breath of fresh air. This kitchen was given a new modern feeling with dark wooden cabinets and a slate mosaic back-splash, which contrasts nicely with the sleek stainless steel appliances. To further the energy efficiency of the renovation we installed all energy efficient appliances, low-flow plumbing fixtures, and recessed lighting that utilized CFL & LED lamps.
In the master bathroom Gardner/Fox created a unique retreat for the new home owners. The bathroom includes an entire wall of windows, which were to remain in the new design. To combat the heat loss and gain associated, a layer of foam insulation was used to keep the bathroom climate comfortable. The entire space was decked in glass tile, and includes a hydronic towel warmer on the outside of the shower. The final touch was the floating vanity, which fits perfectly with the home owners modern aesthetic.
The originally unfinished basement was completed and included an exercise and play room for children. In addition to the interior design of the home, Gardner/Fox completed updates to the HVAC, electrical, lighting, and mechanical systems.
In 2012 this project took first place in the Chrysalis Design Awards for Residential Interior Design! To see more of this award winner, you can visit the project site on our houzz.
