This month Gardner/Fox started its latest project at Bryn Mawr College: updating the fire safety systems in their historic Eleanor Donnelley Erdman Hall, designed by Louis Kahn in 1960.
Gardner/Fox will be upgrading the fire protection system throughout the entire facility. The renovation includes installing all-new sprinklers and fire alarms. The design has considered the building’s rich architectural history, and the renovation will carefully maintain its historic integrity.
The facility, standing at approximately 9,000 sq. ft., comprises three separate but attached sections. Each section is complete with two stories and basements, all clad in concrete for the urban look for which Louis Kahn is known.
In addition to a dormitory, the building houses large meeting rooms, small social rooms, and a dining room. Since its completed construction in 1965, it has housed thousands of students but has undergone few changes. We’re proud to be assisting the college with this renovation to assure the safety of its students and staff.
