It’s always interesting when Remodeling Magazine publishes its annual Cost vs. Value report and this year is no exception.
As usual, the cost and resale values can be debated (we’ve always thought that remodeling projects are unique and that lumping them into general categories tends to be misleading), but with the recent fall in home values nationwide, it’s not surprising that the statistics show a downward trend in recouping remodeling costs.
So, what should a homeowner do? Our opinion, and the opinion of most of our clients over our 22 year history, is that remodeling projects should be taken on for long term satisfaction and long term investment rewards. Well designed, well constructed projects will pay for themselves with years of enjoyment and will ultimately lead to an easier, quicker sale at a higher value.
