There is an interesting article in the December 3, 2008 Wall Street Journal about the current “array of great deals on homes, cars and other big-ticket items”.
The article points out that it is a good time to get a deal on home remodeling so you might “get work done more quickly and possibly at better rates than a few years ago”. Compared to the last 5 years, there is no question that sub-contractor and supplier prices are down and that the supply of labor is giving us the opportunity to shorten project schedules. Without a doubt, it is a good time to get a great deal on remodeling.
Interestingly, the article encourages consumers to focus on the effect that the remodeling project will have on their family rather than the resale value (something we at Gardner/Fox have always believed). The article argues that the most satisfying purchases provide joy after the thrill of getting a good deal wears off. Good advice. [wsj.com]
